MONTERIGGIONI

Monteriggioni is a little village located in the province of Siena . The magnificent walls, built during the first two decades of the 1200 and immortalized by the great poet Dante Alighieri, are still intact and include 14 towers.

Monteriggioni was built by the Senese people as a defensive rampart against the invasion of Florentines.

The small dimension of the centre, surrounded by 22.441 inches (570 metre) of wall, has limited its development: in the square there is the parish church built at the end of the 14th century.

While its population consists only 60 people, Monteriggioni's commune is situaded in a vast countryside.
